Massey Ferguson

Massey Ferguson was born from two big names in the history of global agricultural machinery - this is Daniel Massey (Daniel Massey), a hereditary Canadian farmer, and Harry Ferguson (Harry Ferguson), a brilliant engineer from Ireland. But we must not forget about the merits of another person - Alanson Harris, the owner of a foundry in Canada, who also contributed to the rich heritage of this brand, although over time his name was not preserved in its spelling. However, first things first ...

A reference point in the history of Massey Ferguson can be considered 1847, when the progressive farmer Daniel Massey, transferring farm management to his son, opened a workshop for the production and repair of agricultural equipment in Newcastle. It is his workshop that is credited with creating the world's first mechanical threshers. In 1867, the Canadian Massey harvesting equipment won two gold medals at the National Exhibition in Paris, gaining international recognition for the first time.

Subsequently, the company, inherited by the eldest son of Daniel Hart, moved to Toronto in 1879, where after a few years became the largest employer in the city. Production facilities allowed the export of equipment (even then there were first deliveries to Russia and Ukraine), and a successful advertising campaign made Massey the most recognizable brand in all of Canada. An important invention of the company of those years was the automatic sheave dressing, which provided twice as much productivity as using the reaping machine and manual labor and in 1889 was awarded the title of "The Best Harvester in the World".

Among the unique engineering developments of Harry include the invention in 1926 of the three-point linkage mechanism for tractors. This allowed the use of a hydraulic system to raise and lower the plow or cultivator, thereby increasing the stability and traction power of the equipment. The system has proven its worth and subsequently became the standard for manufacturers of tractors and attachments worldwide.

Further, the company invests not only in expanding the model range and in the development of the distribution network, but also in the growth of its own assets. By the mid-60s, it owned 26 enterprises in 9 countries.

Over the next few decades, Massey Ferguson regularly releases more and more new models of technology, introducing advanced technologies and developments. So, in 1962, the Multi-Power gearbox appeared - the first in the tractor industry, which allows using the clutch switch on the dashboard to include an increased or reduced speed range. And in 1976, the PowerFlow reaper was introduced, which allowed to minimize grain loss. Surprisingly, it still has no analogues and distinguishes Massey Ferguson combines from competitors. In 1991, the company became the pioneer of the “space age” in the agricultural machine-building industry by launching a combine harvester equipped with the world's first GPS-based crop mapping system.

By the beginning of the 90s, the Massey Ferguson dealer network became the most extensive in the global agricultural machinery industry, making the brand popular in all parts of the world.

What is the success of Massey Ferguson? Only a company whose origins were a true farmer, such as Daniel Massey, could create a technique that has been recognized by farmers around the world. Originating more than a century ago and preserved to this day, the company's philosophy is more than just machine manufacturing. This is, first of all, customer confidence in the opportunity to get maximum comfort and convenience, from initial consultation and assistance in financing to after-sales service and provision of spare parts.

Since 1994, all assets and the Massey Ferguson dealer network have been transferred to the ownership of AGCO Corporation, the only international engineering concern specializing exclusively in the production of agricultural machinery. This alliance was a new milestone in the history of the Massey Ferguson brand and marked the beginning of an even greater number of developments aimed at solving agricultural problems.

Today AGCO Corporation, already well-known in Russia, which owns the international brands Challenger, Fendt and Valtra, invites Russian agricultural producers to familiarize themselves with Massey Ferguson equipment and personally verify its reliability and ease of use. Its wide range represents a unique range of tractors, harvesting equipment, as well as loaders, allowing everyone to choose a machine that meets their requirements and capabilities.
