Hyundai has been producing trucks since the first days of its existence - at first it was one Ford model, and then its own developments appeared. Today the company offers a wide range of Porter trucks, up to the ultra-modern Xcient tractors.
Model range of Hyundai trucks
Today, almost the entire range of Hyundai trucks is supplied. Moreover, most of the cars enter the country in the form of a chassis, on which companies install various add-ons on their own. Also, fully-equipped cars, mainly concrete mixers, dump trucks and truck tractors, also arrive. Other add-ons, including complex ones (truck cranes, tow trucks, truck mounted cranes, concrete pumps and others) are successfully installed in our country according to customers' requirements (this activity has become a separate business area that has good prospects).
All Hyundai trucks can be conditionally divided into five large categories:
- Light commercial trucks - these include only the Porter models and the updated Porter II, also minibuses (as well as cars created on the basis of them) H-100 and H-1 are often referred to them;
- Small trucks - the basis of the segment is the HD-65 and HD-78;
- Medium-tonnage trucks - these are the two main models HD-120 and HD-170;
- Large-capacity trucks - this category includes the HD-250 and HD-260 models, as well as the HD-270 and HD-320 / HD-370 chassis, used mainly as a base for dump trucks and special equipment;
- Hyundai truck tractors are the most powerful trucks of the HD-450, HD-500, HD-700 and HD-1000 models.
In addition, it is possible to distinguish the most modern Hyundai Xcient series trucks (also offered under the name QZ) in a separate category. Today, this range includes truck tractors, cargo chassis and dump trucks.
Each of the truck models has its own characteristics and areas of application, and also has a different ability to install add-ons and operation.
Light commercial trucks Porter and Porter II
Hyundai Porter is a light commercial truck manufactured since 1977. It is a typical Asian truck designed for active urban operation - it has compact dimensions, but in most cases sufficient load capacity (up to 950 kg), it has high maneuverability, good dynamics and economy. All these advantages are reflected in the name of the truck - Porter.
The first generation of the car was produced almost unchanged for about ten years, in 1986 the production of the second generation Hyundai Porter was launched, and in 1996 - the third, it is also produced now.
Hyundai Porter has a frame structure, the engine is installed in front, a triple cabin is located above the engine. Drive - to the rear axle. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual only. The front suspension is independent, on wishbones, shock absorbing, with anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is dependent, on springs, shock absorbing.
Hyundai Porter is equipped with two types of engines:
- Petrol 2.5-liter with 110 hp (before 1994 - carburetor, after 1994 - injection);
- A diesel 2.5-liter with a capacity of 75 hp, later a turbocharger was added to it, raising the power to 80 hp - This version of the motor was installed on TagAZ trucks.
Hyundai Porter II received updated engines:
- Petrol 2.4-liter capacity of 150 hp.;
- Diesel 2.5-liter 8-valve with a capacity of 75 hp.;
- Diesel 2.5-liter 16-valve turbocharged engine with 130 hp
A distinctive feature of the truck is its comfortable cab. Despite its compact size, it offers comfort to the driver and passengers, provides good visibility and sufficient safety. In the Hyundai Porter II, the cab has become even more comfortable.
A great advantage of the Hyundai Porter is its relatively inexpensive maintenance and repair. This also applies to trucks of old releases, since they have a high percentage of interchangeability of spare parts with cars of other brands and models. So, Porter has a lot in common with the Hyundai H-100 minibus (since the truck was created on its basis), as well as with Mitsubishi trucks and minibuses (Delica and others). Spare parts for new modifications of the Hyundai Porter have an affordable cost, so the maintenance of the truck does not cause any special problems.
It is a reliable, convenient and in many cases irreplaceable light commercial truck. Today, a large number of various add-ons are installed on the Porter chassis (the onboard platform with an awning, manufactured goods and isothermal vans are most popular), which makes it truly universal.
Light commercial vehicles
In Hyundai small vehicles, the main place is occupied by two models - HD-65 and HD-78.
These cars have the same design, but differ in maximum weight and carrying capacity:
- HD-65 - carrying capacity from 2.3 to 4 tons depending on the modification (modifications with a carrying capacity of 3.25-3.5 tons are most in demand), maximum gross weight up to 5.7 tons;
- HD-78 - carrying capacity of 4.5-4.9 tons, depending on version, maximum gross weight up to 7.5 tons.
At the same time, the overall dimensions of the cars are the same, depending on the modification, they can reach lengths from 5.54 to 8.262 meters, there are also five modifications with different wheelbases - 2.55, 2.75, 3.375, 3.57 and 3.735 meters.
Both models use a single 4-cylinder in-line D4DD diesel engine with a capacity of 3.9 liters and a capacity of 140 hp, which meets the environmental standard. This engine is equipped with an electronic nozzle control system; on earlier truck modifications, D4AL engines were used. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual only.
The car has a frame structure and a classic layout: the engine is located in the front of the frame, a cabless cab is installed above it. Drive - to the rear axle. The front and rear suspension are independent, on springs, with hydraulic shock absorbers (they are not provided for in some modifications), the anti-roll bar is provided in the front suspension.
Today, there are a large number of modifications of Hyundai HD-65 and HD-78 cars, they differ in size, cabs (a standard three-seater cabin, a cabin with a berth and a two-row six-seater cabin can be installed), etc. Various superstructures can be installed on the chassis - an onboard platform, a platform with an awning, various vans, tow trucks, truck cranes, aerial platforms, as well as tipper platforms, gantry loaders and others.
The popularity of these models is due to two reasons - an excellent combination of price and quality, as well as the lack of worthy competitors.
Hyundai medium-duty trucks are also represented by two models that have similar characteristics:
- HD-120 with a carrying capacity of 7.3-7.7 tons (in some markets it is offered as Hyundai Mega Truck);
- HD-170 with a loading capacity of up to 10 tons (in some markets it is offered as New Power Truck and Hyundai Gold).
Both cars have a traditional frame design and layout, the engine is located under the cabless cab, the wheel formula is 4 × 2, the drive to the rear axle. Each of the models has its own characteristics.
HD-120. To date, the model has three modifications that are different in maximum length - Short (4.6 meters), Long (5.45 meters) and Extra Long (8.62 meters). As the power plant, two models of 6-cylinder diesel engines are used.
HD-170. Presented in three versions with different maximum lengths - Short (5.45 meters), Long (7.4 meters) and Extra Long (9.525 meters). Comes with turbocharged D6AB 6-cylinder diesel engines.
A great advantage of the models is their attractive cost and low maintenance price. An additional incentive to purchase the HD-120 and HD-170 is the fact that the domestic market does not offer too many cars of this class (with a carrying capacity of 7-10 tons).
The segment of large trucks is represented by the largest number of models with a maximum lifting capacity of 17.42 to 29.53 tons. The basis of the line is five models - HD-250 / HD-260, HD-270 and HD-320 / HD-370, united by the Hyundai Trago trademark. Each car has its own characteristics and applications.
HD-250 / HD-260. The lightest models with a maximum chassis load capacity of 17.42 (HD-250) and 18.22 (HD-260) tons and a maximum gross vehicle weight of 42 tons. It has a classic layout, a 6 × 2 and 6 × 4 wheel arrangement, is equipped with in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with a D6AB turbocharger.
HD-270. The chassis with a carrying capacity of 21.96 tons is most often used as the basis for a dump truck and construction equipment (concrete mixers). It has a 6 × 4 wheel arrangement, is equipped with in-line diesel engines D6AC (340 hp, 11.1 liters, Euro-2) and D6CB (380 hp, 11.1 liters, Euro-3) .
HD-320 / HD-370. The heaviest model with a carrying capacity of 29.53 tons. This is a four-axle chassis with an 8 × 4 wheel arrangement, most often used for installing a tipper platform, and also as a basis for special and construction equipment. Equipped with in-line D6AC and D6CA diesel engines.
This line of trucks has been produced since 2006. Cars have not only excellent technical characteristics, but also a high degree of safety and comfort for the driver. Cars are equipped with auxiliary active safety systems (ABS and others), air conditioning, heated rear-view mirrors, etc.
These models are built on a modern component base, they are widely used components and assemblies of European brands, which increases the reliability of cars.
QZ / Xcient Series Heavy Duty Trucks
Xcient Trucks (also offered as QZ) is Hyundai's newest lineup introduced in 2013. To date, the lineup contains five major modifications to the car:
- Chassis 6 × 4 (permissible gross weight of 30.7 tons, length 9.63, 10.26 and 11.82 meters);
- Tippers 6 × 4 and 8 × 4;
- Truck tractors 4 × 2 and 6 × 4.
All models are built on one base, they use in-line 6-cylinder diesel engines with a capacity of 380 and 410 hp (D6CC models) with turbocharger. The engine is loaded on a ZF manual gearbox. Other features include the presence of ABS and other active safety systems, the optional installation of air suspension and a comfortable cabin (which even has an air ionizer).
The Xcient lineup, in terms of its characteristics, generally repeats the Trago lineup, distinguishing itself from it by more modern solutions, as well as increased safety and comfort.
